Meet The Staff!
Marca Porter is the heart of Porter Tutoring. Nearly 36 years ago, Marca began Porter Tutoring as a private tutor, traveling to area schools during the day and meeting with more clients in the evenings. Prior to opening Porter Tutoring, Marca was a University tutor, Supervisor for UTA's tutoring program, and was Director for a national chain of tutoring programs. She loves scuba diving with her husband and preserving special memories through scrapbooking. She has a passion for education and possess an exceptional talent for discovering learning techniques to best fit each student that she contributes to God. Her favorite saying is, "Learn Something New Today!" as she believes you should learn something new every single day!
Upon entering our office, you'll likely be greeted by our friendly receptionist and scheduling coordinator, Kristen. She is a student at UTA and is pursuing majors in both Environmental Science and German Language. She has experience teaching children of all ages and with leading biology labs at UTA. When she has time for herself, she enjoys reading anything she can, swimming, and going hiking and rock climbing. Her favorite book is "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society".
Elise began her career teaching 8th-12th Math and has 9 years experience in the Secondary classroom. She has worked for Porter Tutoring for even longer than that as she began with them while in college. She loves to find different ways to explain difficult math concepts and loves when students feel success! She enjoys spending time with her husband, her two beautiful daughters, and her dog named “Tini”. Her favorite book is Their Eyes Were Watching God and some of her favorite things in the world are iced mochas, traveling, and live theater!
Ben grew up here in Arlington, Texas and graduated from Arlington High with Honors. He was involved with the orchestra, Pals, and the National Honor Society. He is now going to school at the University of Texas at Arlington to achieve an Aerospace Engineering degree. He is also minoring in Math, Spanish, and Mechanical Engineering. Outside of school, Ben enjoys weightlifting and going for a run. His favorite book is "The Martian".
Dean is a native of Arlington, Texas, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Arlington High School. While there, he was Vice President of Choir and member of the Academic Decathlon team. He is currently at UTA pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Electrical Engineering. He is also a member of UTA's chapter of Engineers without Borders. Outside of school, Dean enjoys reading about philosophy and politics, playing guitar, and studying comedy. His favorite books is "The Inner Game of Tennis" by W. Timothy Gallwey.
Jenna grew up here in the DFW Metroplex and graduated from LD Bell High School with an International Baccalaureate Diploma. While there, she was in band and was a member of the improv troupe. She is currently working on her Bachelors Degree in Mathematics with a Focus in Secondary Education at UTA. Jenna is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society at UTA, and is an officer in the UTA Chapter of the Mathematical Association of America. In her free time, Jenna like to play video games with her boyfriend, think about math, and spend time with her family.
Currently a student and member of the UTeach program at University of Texas at Arlington, Dominique sets her sight on one day becoming a high school chemistry teacher here in DFW. When not in school she likes to put her culinary degree to practice making baked goods, and trying out new recipes.
Devlin is an Arlington, Texas native and alum of Arlington High School. Serving as an All-Region Cellist for the AHS Symphony Orchestra, and an All-State player for AHS soccer, he graduated in the top 5% of his class and went on to pursue a bachelor's in Electrical Engineering at Vanderbilt University. Graduating as a QuestBridge scholar in the spring of 2021, he is now pursuing his master's in Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington as a GEM Fellow. In his free time, Devlin continues to play soccer and spends time with friends and family. His favorite book series is The Inheritance Cycle.
This world traveler began her teaching career the summer of 2007 in Kigali, Rwanda teaching Algebra to expatriates in the area. Jessie has spent most of her 10 year educational career teaching high school math in Oklahoma, Colorado, and Texas. Jessie likes to spend her free time with her husband and puppy. Her favorite activities are traveling, reading, live theater, and crafting! Some of her favorite book series are: The Matched Series, The Sword of Truth Series, and The Queen’s Own series.
